This wonderful improvisation on we shall overcome for organ by Carl Haywood was premiered to critical acclaim at the 2011 Hampton Conference. While moderately difficult, this beloved hymn tune from the civil rights movement is immensely rewarding to play. The piece begins with a brisk repeated arpeggio requiring a measure of skill and dexterity. It moves to a more stately articulation of the theme in the middle section and ends with triumphant majesty in a combination of the two textures. A brilliant arrangement!
